Character Breakdowns

Jack Ludwig (20s-30s)... A U.S. Army doctor stationed in Medford, Oregon. He is academic, deeply introverted, a man of few words, and is more comfortable with facts than feelings…at first, anyway. Encouraged by his father, Jack begins writing to Louise, unsure of where the correspondence might lead. As the letters continue, he gradually opens up, revealing warmth, wit, and deep emotions that runs beneath his quiet surface.

Louise Rabiner (20s-30s)... By contrast, she is a force of nature. An aspiring actress living in New York City, she’s bold, expressive, and full of life. Her current life consists of auditions, performances, and the vibrant chaos of the theater world while corresponding with a man she’s never met. Louise is confident and funny, yet also deeply vulnerable––particularly in sensitive matters of the heart. Through her letters, she shares not just her daily life but her dreams, frustrations, and fears, slowly weaving herself into Jack’s world.
